Artist's Statement -
Julianne Felton

" Being outside in the open air, responding to nature with brush and color in a quiet place is what my current paintings are about.  Observing and recording some of the beauty of each peaceful place brings a significant spiritual awareness".

"My approach to painting is very immediate and uncalculated with the exception of the ground color and textured surfaces.  By using a textured ground I can affect the mood and tone of the painting as well as give the illusion of minute threads of plant life trailing across the surface.  With a brilliant ground color, little bits and pieces showing through the darker areas give the painting life and sparkle.  Each painting is a new experience, an unplanned response, building color upon color, glaze upon glaze.  Acrylics dry very quickly, which suits my nature, because it allows changes to be made without a long waiting period".

"At times I paint in my yard, completely alone and undisturbed.  I also love the quiet spaces by the water's edge so I seek out places to work where I can remain as undisturbed as possible".

"When a day begins with painting outside in a quiet and beautiful place, I feel free, alive and at peace with the world".
